Watson and winger Edrick Lee were Newcastle main casualties after Saturday's 22-10 win against Canterbury, after both suffered plantar fascia (foot) injuries.
But scans on Monday suggested they would not necessarily miss the clash with the Dragons.
"Both Connor and Edrick, if they don't play this week, they'll be a week [out], maybe two weeks tops," Knights coach Nathan Brown said.
"But they both may play as well. We're still just waiting on reports from scans and that type of stuff ... hopefully they're right to play this week, but if they miss one week or two, it's only a small price to play."
Brown confirmed that if Lee was out, centre Tautau Moga would be considered for his first NRL game since he underwent a knee reconstruction 12 months ago.
Sione Mata'utia is also capable of switching from back row to centre, while Kurt Mann is versatile enough to cover any position in the backline.
