The prospect of the matter of a man charged with allegedly killing his disabled daughter in the Hunter being resolved without going to trial is minimal, Newcastle district court has heard.

The matter was mentioned in court before Judge Roy Ellis on Monday, when it was adjourned until later this week.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had his bail continued on Monday.
He was charged with manslaughter in February, 2014 - two and a half years after his nine-year-old daughter was found dead in her bed at Clarence Town.
The child lived with cerebral palsy and required 24-hour care.

An inquest into her death held in 2013 heard the child died from a combination of internal injuries caused by a blunt force to the stomach.
The injuries included tears to her liver, diaphragm, oesophagus and small bowel.
