Interest has come from as far away as Singapore for the former St Andrew's Anglican Church in Seaham which is set for auction on Saturday.
Roger Ingham, of First National Newcastle City, is marketing the historic building on around 8000 square metres of land at 47 Warren Street. The property comprises the former church plus three adjoining separately titled lots which are being sold as one.
The building is heritage listed. It was built in 1860 and was one of the few buildings saved in the January 1939 bushfires.
"The interest has been enormous and open houses have been very well inspected," Mr Ingham said.
"There's a lot of people who love churches and there has been been a lot of inquiry from Sydney. I'm expecting it to be a well-attended auction, one on behalf of the interest in the property that the local community have and its future use and also I expect it will be well attended by intending bidders."
He said the property, which also has a freestanding hall, offered a range of future uses, subject to council approval, including being a residential property and had also attracted interest as a commercial venture.
It is set for auction on site Saturday at 9am. A price guide has not been disclosed.

The units, now named Garden Villas, have been completely renovated by Chris Whitehead from the Whitehead Property Group.
