A MAN remains under guard after police found him hiding submerged in a golf course pond.

About 7.45am Monday a 61-year-old man drove his car to the rear of a business premises in Manns Road, North Gosford, to commence work. As he entered the building it is alleged he was approached by a male who demanded he open the safe, which he did.
It is further alleged the man took the money from the safe, along with the other man's car keys, and drove his car from the rear of the business towards Dell Street.
At the intersection of Manns Rd and Dell Rd he collided with another car.
The man ran from the crash site towards Narara Creek, swimming across it towards the golf course.
Police attended and a search of the area commenced with the assistance of Polair and the Dog Unit. The man was located and arrested a short time later submerged in a pond within the golf course.
Police searched the pond and located a bag containing cash and other items secreted in the mud.
The 35-year-old man from Woy Woy was arrested and taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment and remains under police guard.
Investigations are continuing, and charges are expected.
