IT'S pretty obvious our PM and his hillbilly mates in the National Party have absolutely zero intention of doing anything on behalf of Australia to mitigate the effects of catastrophic climate change. Thanks for nothing, ScoMo.

BROADCASTER Alan Jones appears to show more signs of misogyny in his rant against New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, perhaps not all women, but certainly those in powerful positions. Now sponsors are pulling out. Time for a lightbulb moment Alan.

ROB Cosgrove (Short Takes, 20/8), there is also an old expression, "backhander". That means assault someone. Nothing sinister in Alan Jones suggesting a backhander on a woman? He has form; a misogynist and a bully who should not be on the airwaves.

SO our Prime Minister thinks that Getup should register and call itself a political party. Getup is not publicly-funded, raising its own money. I wonder if the Prime Minister thinks Advance Australia (highly biased) or perhaps the Evil Empire, News Corp, which I think has been doing its best (successfully) to butcher western democracy for decades, also need registration.

AT the risk of lowering any esteem I may have to zero, I, like Cr Robinson, Israel Folau and many others still call "a spade a spade" regardless of the twisting and misuse of our language by the homosexual fraternity ('I won't take it anymore', Newcastle Herald, 17/8) and their unrelenting offensive "bullying" by using "political correctness".

I FIND the comparatively recent Indigenous Welcoming Ceremony quite curious. In their original native state, any Aboriginal person who strayed beyond their traditional tribal boundaries was in fear of their life and quite possibly killed. There was certainly no "Welcome, Welcome, Welcome."

IF a batsman suffers concussion and has to retire then maybe the bowler should also be retired. This may reduce the head high bouncers.

I'M interested in how much of $780 million of public funds go to "expanding and accommodating parallel private health services" in the John Hunter upgrade ('Next gen John', Herald, 20/8)

IN reply to Mark Bowen's comments (Short Takes, 20/8) refereeing can be a thankless job, but all games should be given the opportunity to have a fair outcome and I can understand Ian Wright's disappointment at only one official at such an important match to both teams (Letters, 17/8). At a recent finals game, although having three officials, the referee was reported to be the cousin of the captain of our opposing side; the penalties were 18-3. And for the record the result did go our way 20-10.
