NEWCASTLE Knights - you stood tall and strong in victory. You smashed wonderful Wayne's Bunnies, even though they had the advantage of refereeing that I thought was biased their favour. Now you know that you can do it. Simply keep it simple and play excellent footy and guess what, you will be in the finals. Go the Knights.

WELL, what can be said again about the quality of refereeing in the NRL. I'm not a Knights fan but give the punters a break - Mitchell Pearce, down on the ground, no momentum then picked up and dragged into the in goal. Let's not talk about the inexplicable penalties to bring Souths back into the game. Well done Newcastle. Referees, get get your game in order.

OOOOHH, maybe they should have picked the Knights to play for the NSW team last Wednesday.

ISRAEL Folau stated "I can't change what the word of God says" and "My faith in Jesus Christ is what comes first". Folau's Jesus also said "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God". The headline in the Newcastle Herald read "Folau to sue for $10 million". Over to you Israel.

NOT bad, Brad Hill, but "rare" doesn't rhyme with "snag", so it falls a bit flat at the end (Short Takes, 7/6). Here's an alternative:
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are sort of free;
To sing along, or not to sing
As long as Brad agrees;
Our land abounds in rich black coal
To dig up and to share;
To hell with those who dare complain
Advance Australia Where?
Towards the cliff let us all point
Advance Australia there!
Michael Hinchey, New Lambton
SINCE Brad Hill is thinking of updating our national anthem, I'll pass on a version from some years ago:
Australians oil their ostriches,
For we are young and green;
We've gold and soil and welfare toil;
Our home is dirt by sea.
Our land abounds in nature's gits,
Like Jodie, Rich and Skase;
In history's page, suppress your rage;
Siddown, shuddup your face.
There's a second verse, but mention of detention centres might trigger an AFP raid.
Peter Moylan, Glendale
LET'S call a spade a spade. Most people who don't sing the national anthem are silent because they don't know the words.
Sophia Campbell, Dudley
WE now know why the media were raided this week. It was to stop them talking about our visit from our babysitters while our top politicians were out of the country. Also thank you workers who gave up your penalty rates so our politicians could have some more hard-earned wages for work they don't do. We may have stopped the boats, but we didn't stop the warships.
