FORMER Catholic priest Vincent Ryan has been jailed for another three years and three months for the indecent assault of alter boys at The Junction in the 1970s and at Cessnock in the 1990s.

The 81-year-old, who has previously been jailed for 14 years for the abuse of 34 boys between 1973 and 1991, showed no emotion in Sydney District Court as Judge Dina Yehia ordered he be returned to jail for a minimum period of 14 months.

Judge Yehia said the seriousness of the offences required that Ryan be returned to jail even though she accepted that Ryan's incarceration may have a catastrophic impact on his physical and mental health.

Ryan's victims and supporters applauded as he was helped to his feet and handcuffed following the judgement.
