Lake Macquarie City Council is calling for expressions of interest from artists to create the art installations which will form part of the Charlestown CREATE activation project.
CREATE is a City-wide art activation project targeting specific areas within Lake Macquarie, funded by the NSW Government through the Stronger Country Communities Fund and the council.
Jacqui Hemsley, Lake Macquarie council's manager for arts, culture and tourism, said design proposals for a technology-based sculpture, a projection mapping and three sound-based artworks were sought to activate Pearson Street by day and night.
"This project will ensure Charlestown continues to be an attractive and vibrant public space, while at the same time encouraging evening activity and new experiences for the wider community," Ms Hemsley said.
"We have allocated up to $50,000 for the main sculpture, with another $17,500 for four other works along the new trail."
Submissions close on Sunday, June 9.
Opportunities available:
- Technology-based sculpture - $40,000 commission plus $10,000 additional for installation
- Projection mapping artwork - $10,000 commission (council will supply and install hardware)
- Sound-based artwork - $2,500 x 3 commission (council will supply and install hardware)
