More than 1100 mountain bike riders took on fast-riding trails, tough climbs and hair-raising descents in the sixth Port to Port race.

The event, held across four days, covered 195 kilometres of terrain in Pokolbin, West Wallsend, Cooranbong and the coast from Belmont to Dixon Park, including the renowned trails of Glenrock State Conservation Area.
"Every stage has its own personality and they're all unique and brilliant in their own way," race director Sally Hill said.
"The racing happens in the morning, starting at 8am, with a beautiful backdrop somewhere new each day.
"When the racers finish they can relax and recharge in the event village, then get out and enjoy the region."
Ms Hill said the event started in the Hunter Valley with "hot-air balloons rising and that beautiful low fog".
It ended on Sunday at Merewether beach "with the surf pumping".
"It was our biggest year yet. The athletes loved it," she said.
