The event, which was aimed at improving Lake Macquarie's nightlife, attracted more than 1500 people.
The Belmont Beers, Blues and BBQ festival featured craft brewers, "slow and low" barbecue connoisseurs and a live art mural.
Jacqui Hemsley, of Lake Macquarie council, said the festival demonstrated the city's potential to host high-quality regional events.
"This is the first step in our move towards bigger, bolder and better events right across Lake Macquarie," she said.
Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser, who opened the event, said a draft event and festival strategy was now on public exhibition.
It outlined plans to host at least 20 iconic events each year.
