Former Mayfield resident Lachlan McFadyen completed a Diploma of Screen and Media at TAFE NSW Newcastle and moved to Sydney in January, where he is four months into his role as a production runner on the show.
Mr McFadyen said his role involves a "bit of everything and a lot of responsibility" and ranges from driving the cast to taking equipment to be repaired, running the director's notes from base to the production office and transporting rushes from the camera and audio crew to the editing department.
Mr McFadyen completed a university pathway program before studying at TAFE NSW and said he owed his success to his teachers, who he described as approachable and with important knowledge to share.
"I managed to get where I am because of their industry knowledge and connections," he said.
"That's what it comes down to. TAFE NSW was great with the theoretical side of things and the hands-on training, excursions and potential placements are amazing."
He said a teacher secured work experience for him in 2018 with ABC production Frayed, where the production coordinator said they could give him another job if he moved to Sydney.
Les Norton line producer Scott Hartley said Mr McFadyen had taken on his responsibilities faster than any other first time production runner he had worked alongside.
