"I've been fortunate enough to occupy senior positions in Freemasonry," Mr Peattie said, adding that this had enabled his charity work.
As a deputy grand master, he organised Masonic lodges in Newcastle to donate food to families in need at Christmas through the Salvation Army.
"Part of the ethos of being a Freemason is to help others. It's all about how you live your life. If Freemasons say they'll do something, they do it," the Cameron Park resident said.
He expanded the Christmas program statewide under the Grand Master's hamper appeal.
He also led NSW and ACT chapters of the Masons to donate money for the Buy a Bale campaign for farmers.
He's also done pro bono legal work for the Deaf Society in Newcastle. In this role, he helped disadvantaged people get a fairer go in different aspects of life that required legal advice.
He thanked his wife Janelle for her support.
"She's always been there. I couldn't have accomplished these things without her," he said.
He also thanked the Mark and Royal Arch Masons across NSW and the ACT for their "great generosity" with charitable initiatives.
