Work on the playing surface and the existing facilities will continue taking place in the coming weeks ahead of the Wallaroos hosting Japan while additional infrastructure will also be brought in.
"There's a lot of work to do to make sure it will be a Test match experience," NHRU general manager Andy Fairfull said.
Wanderers have yet to allocate an alternative venue for fixtures against Maitland on June 22 and Lake Macquarie on June 29, which were both originally scheduled for No.2 Sportsground.
The Two Blues have already visited each of those sides earlier this season. Passmore Oval and Bernie Curran Oval aren't being used on either weekend by Hamilton or University respectively.
"Hosting the women's rugby Test is an historic opportunity for the city and we are determined to do everything we can to make the Wallaroos an annual fixture, as women's sport goes from strength to strength," City of Newcastle services director Alison Murphy said.
"Remediation works and the closure of the ground will provide staff with the opportunity to rehabilitate the surface to an appropriate standard for the Test."
Rugby Australia head of operations and major events Tony Harris said he had "every confidence" the ground would be ready.
"We have been very impressed with the efforts of the city around this fixture and I know the team [Wallaroos] is looking forward to continuing their preparation for the international season when they convene in Newcastle on July 6," Harris said.
