Three-year-old On Her Word, Dunn's second city starter, powered to a length win in the first over 1100m at Warwick Farm.
The $22,000 prize was the biggest for Dunn, who has ridden trackwork for more than 20 years but has been training for about six.
Dunn also owns On Her Word, which was second in her first two starts, both at Gosford, after hindered runs.
Dunn was "speechless" after the breakthrough victory with the filly, which she bought via a friend in a supplementary session of the Inglis Scone Weanling and Thoroughbred Sale in May 2018. She hadn't been broken in and arrived at Dunn's stables "an absolute mess".
"I'd just bought a property days before the sale," Dunn said. "My friend said you can improve her, she's done it tough in the drought. I said I couldn't go higher than $1500, and I got her for $500."
Dunn has never had more than two horses in work at her 20-acre property, which has a track and horse pool.
"We'd love to go a bit bigger, not commercial, but we'd love to have a few more horses," she said. "I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I like to keep it hands-on."
"She was a little bit difficult, and she's quirky," she said of On Her Word. "But I think most mares are a bit quirky. She just has a lot of power to go with it.
"She has a nice little let-down and she stays strong. She doesn't peter on her run, and Josh [Parr] gave her a perfect ride today."
Dunn was unsure of the next target for On Her Word.
"I've never been faced with a horse that's got a bit of ability like her," she laughed.
Dunn's other horse in work is Golly Miss Solly, which has had two trials since coming to her stable and goes around again at Newcastle on Friday.
Formerly trained by the now suspended Ben Smith, Golly Miss Solly is a half-sister to group 1 winner El Dorado Dreaming and is on the comeback from leg surgery.
Premier Newcastle trainer Kris Lees finished Wednesday's meeting with wins from Jack's Bar and Loveisili.
