The heavy police presence on scene has been scaled back, as detectives await the approval of a crime scene warrant to further investigate the property. Police have ruled out the resident of the home as being connected to the case.
While police are not yet able to release details about the newborn's exact age, gender or cause of death, they do believe the missing mother gave birth "very recently". Results from a a post mortem examination are expected to be released in coming days.
Anyone with information about the baby or the mother is urged to contact Newcastle detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
