Austin Mackay (vocals, guitar), Jonah Sheenan (drums), Connor Rigby (bass) and Dylan Patamisi (guitar) competed in the Hamilton high school's battle of the bands three months ago and on Wednesday it was revealed Maple Syrup had won and secured a support set at the Supercars concert at No.1 Sportsground on November 23. However, in the meantime the year 11 and 12 students had moved onto different projects.
"Coop and I play in another band outside school, so our concentration was on that, so we put the band back together when this concert came up," Mackay said. "We're really keen to take the opportunity."
SEEDS SOWN The long-awaited second album from Australian indie-folk supergroup Seeker Lover Keeper will arrive on August 9 backed by a national tour. Wild Seeds follows Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann and Holly Throsby's acclaimed self-titled 2011 debut. The album's first single Let It Out was released in May and featured comedian Magda Szubanski in the video. For the second single, Wild Seeds, the trio called in Orange Is The New Black's Yael Stone to star in the clip. Seeker Lover Keeper play 48 Watt Street on September 7.
NIGHT OF SIN Trophy Eyes frontman John Floreani will return to Newcastle on September 21 to perform at the Cambridge Hotel. Floreani released his debut solo album Sin two weeks ago, which focuses on a more intimate sound than Trophy Eyes.
