But like many times this season, the young Rosebud side fell just short in a performance full of merit against far more credentialled rivals.
Rosebud lost 1-0 to Lambton Jaffas on a heavy Adamstown Oval pitch in a game of few chances on Saturday. Luke Remington proved the difference, scoring off a Braedyn Crowley cross in the 42nd minute.
Jaffas moved to fifth, two points off the top four after 14 rounds. Adamstown have just two wins in 12 games. They have, however, been in most contests and have lost six times by only one goal.
"I'd love to know the average age of their team compared to ours, there's a lot of experienced boys in their team," Adamstown coach Shane Cansdell-Sherriff said.
"You can see our boys weren't far off it and I think they realised that after the game. They've just got to keep moving forward.
"Every team in the comp goes through their bad spells over the years and Adamstown, they've got a proud history, but at the moment we're going through a rough time.
"We're not out of it completely, we're not turning up and rolling over. We're battling, we're working hard. We are creating things and when we finally put it together, it will be good."
A bright point was the debut of former Leeds academy player Matt Keogh, who came to Adamstown with Luke Vallone from US college.
Cansdell-Sherriff said Keogh "did exceptionally well" and would play the rest of the season.
The other match on Saturday, Hamilton v Broadmeadow at Darling Street Oval, was washed out.
