NPL clubs Edgeworth and Maitland, as well as the Newcastle Jets, will be in the nationwide knockout's draw on Wednesday from 7.30pm. Matches will be held on Tuesdays or Wednesdays between July 23 and August 7.
It is the fourth time Edgeworth have made the last 32, while Maitland will debut in the round where A-League clubs join the competition.
Edgeworth have drawn a home match in the round only once, when they lost 2-1 to A-League side Melbourne City in 2015 thanks to two free kicks from Aaron Mooy.
That match was played at Broadmeadow's Magic Park because it has the 500 lux lighting required to host a televised match or one with an A-League side. FFA demands that livestreamed matches involving NPL clubs still require at least 200 lux.
The standards have limited venue options for Hunter teams in the past, but Edgeworth are working to ensure they now meet them.
Eagles administrator Warren Mills said the club had spent $100,000 to improve lighting but they were waiting until after Lake Macquarie City Council works on new amenities at Jack McLaughlan Oval before upgrading the system. However, the Eagles were ready to get the lighting up to standard quickly for a cup game.
"We've got four new 25-metre poles sitting out there and we're going to have 630 lux," Mills said. "They will have 48 lights on them but we haven't been able to get them up in time.
"But if we get an A-League team or a TV game, we'll replace the 32 lights on the existing poles. If we get an NPL team, we'll replace half, which will give us 300 lux."
Maitland football manager Michael Mirisch said Jack McLaughlan Oval and Magic Park were options for the Magpies if they secured a game but their preference was to play at home.
Mirisch said Cooks Square Park had about 100 lux and Maitland No.1 Sportsground would need extra lighting to reach A-League or TV standards. Hired lighting to reach 200 lux at Cooks Square was estimated at $8000, while a boost at No.1 for elite matches has cost about $15,000.
"Our preferred option is that if it's a non-A-League club, than we have it at Cooks Square Park," Mirisch said.
"And if it's an A-League club, we go to Maitland No.1. But we still have lighting considerations for both options that we are working on.
"We'd hate to have to take it away from there but our other options are we take it to Magic Park, and the boys have been talking to Millsy about Jack McLaughlan."
Maitland, who were set for a $1 million upgrade to Cooks Square Park if Labor won the federal election, have also had quotes on new permanent lighting with the hope of council support.
Jets chief Lawrie McKinna said McDonald Jones Stadium was his club's preferred cup venue but it was not available for all matchdays. A-League clubs play in weeks two and three of the window.
The Jets have played cup games at Magic Park. McKinna said he had spoken to Mills about maybe using Jack McLaughlan Oval this time.
