WHAT a generous effort by the people who have donated after the tragedy in Singleton (''They will never get over this'', Newcastle Herald 29/6). Maybe some of those so-called Christians who have given $2 million so Israel Folau to pay his lawyers should reassess their priorities.

A QUICK shout-out to the Manly Sea Eagles. They quickly acknowledged the tragedy in Singleton. They have a historical connection with the town and one of the children was a Manly fan. The team wore black armbands against the Titans in honour of the lives lost, plus they are proactive in promoting the GoFundMe page ('Knights, Manly get on side for Singleton fire tragedy', Newcastle Herald 28/6). Respect.

AS the days lengthen and the year progresses, temperatures will ultimately increase into another long hot summer. The result of climate change, no doubt.
Brad Hill, Singleton
NO, John Hudson (Short Takes 28/6), Supercars only used the park in a different way which prevented the so-called good people from vandalising the grass like they did the first year with their anti-Supercars slogan ('Supercars site vandalised with weed killer', Newcastle Herald 19/11/17).
Mark Creek, Adamstown
RAY Dinneen (Short Takes 27/6), in my opinion you just hit the bottom of the of the barrel. To complain about a garbage truck pickup at Civic Theatre holding up traffic. Boy, if that is your only complaint Newcastle is in great shape. I think a letter to council suggesting to get an early pick up, say 5am, might suffice. No traffic, no worries.
Phil Payne, Gateshead
I BELIEVE greyhound racing should be banned. This industry involves barbaric animal cruelty, which is incompatible with any civilised 21st century society.
Norma Graves, Elsternwick
SUZANNE Russell (Short Takes 28/6), if it's not to do with company business, I say employees can promote the Bible in their free time. It's not a banned book - yet. As for giving offence, in a free society giving offence is a component of free speech. People offend Christians all the time. As Orwell said, 'If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear'.
Peter Dolan, Lambton
HERE I am on a sunny Saturday afternoon ready to watch the mighty Knights. I get here early to watch Jersey Flegg, it's almost half time and the food and drink outlets are still not open. I've been here since 3pm and I am told the outlets don't open until 4pm. Disappointed. Lockout laws must have reached MacDonald Jones Stadium. I bet they are drinking in the corporate area.
Tony Morley, Waratah
JOHN William Hill (Short Takes, 1/7), why would the Knights want Folau? He says drunks are going to hell, they sell bus loads of alcohol every game. I love a beer, so I rang Satan and booked my seat.
