PRDnationwide Newcastle and Lake Macquarie marketed the three-bedroom residence at 35 Parnell Place that was bought in 2009 for $790,000. It had undergone a comprehensive renovation and was featured in Coastal Homes Magazine in 2014.
Agent Jesse Wilton described it as "one of the best-positioned homes in Newcastle East".
According to Australian Property Monitors data, the highest sale of a Newcastle East home is $2.6 million for a beachfront residence at 13 Shortland Esplanade. A home known as the Coach House at 41 Alfred Street in Newcastle East sold for $2.2 million in December 2016.

"Not including apartments, it would probably be the second highest sale price for Newcastle East," Mr Wilton said.
APM data shows apartment sales in Newcastle East of $3.05 million (July, 2018), $2.795 million (September, 2017) and $2.7 million (December, 2015).
Original features of 35 Parnell Place included 12-foot ceilings, picture rails and working fireplaces. It had a contemporary kitchen and two stylish bathrooms and the interiors projected a coastal beach house feel.
There was a choice of indoor and outdoor living spaces on both levels, including a top-floor terrace with ocean views, and the master bedroom had a sunroom looking out over Parnell Place park.
