David Phelan, of Dalton Partners, reported the on-site auction of a four-bedroom home on around 800 square metres of land at 8 Summer Place in Merewether Heights drew a strong crowd of around 50 onlookers. They watched two "determined parties" fight it out.
"Bidding slowed around the mid to high $900,000 range however, after a little negotiation, the hammer finally dropped at $1 million," Mr Phelan told Domain.
"This is a good result considering the state of the market over the past 12 months."

A home in original condition at 23 Ravenshaw Street in The Junction also sold under the hammer last Saturday. It was marketed by Street Property's Damon Sellis with a guide of $1.1 million to $1.2 million and was secured by a local buyer after 31 bids for $1.13 million.
"It was basically land value, so it was a good result," Mr Sellis said.
The three-bedroom weatherboard home was on 505 square metres of land and had been in the same family for over 50 years.
Mr Sellis said there had been "good interest" due its sought-after location, close to The Junction Shopping Village and within walking distance of the beach.
