The Candy Man, which carries the colours of great grey Gunsynd, won seven consecutive races for trainer Barry Baldwin this season before finishing 15th in the Brisbane Cup on June 8.
Baldwin said The Candy Man was back in work after a month off and would likely resume over 1200m or 1400m at Eagle Farm in late August or early September before heading to Newcastle.
The Cameron offers the winner an Epsom Handicap start, but Baldwin was looking to the $500,000 Rosehill Gold Cup on November 2.
"After the Cameron ... he might not be good enough for the Epsom, but we'll look at other races," Baldwin said.
"The ultimate race for us is the Rosehill Cup over 2000 metres."
The Candy Man has risen to prominence not just because of his colours and winning streak. The five-year-old gelding survived a 10-hour operation to repair a broken jaw from a stable accident and he also won a race at the Sunshine Coast in January despite missing the start by 10 lengths.
Baldwin said The Candy Man had recovered well from his Brisbane Cup run, where he was wide throughout.
"We decided to go forward but we would have been better off riding him quiet, because he can come from back in the field," he said. "I think he's better ridden quiet.
"He looks a picture. He's put on 30 kilos, but he's that kind of horse that it will come off him quick once he puts the work in."
At Cessnock on Monday, former champion jockey Malcolm Johnston won as a trainer with Billy Piu Style.
It was part of a winning double for hoop Chad Lever, who also won on Ellofarock for Muswellbrook trainer Aleacia Bennett.
