Fourth-placed Nova came back from eight-goals down at half-time to go down 50-49 at National Park in round 11.
Beaten by 16 in their first clash this year, Nova chipped away at the lead before scoring the final goal. Nova player-coach Katie Robinson was proud of her side.
"We kept the pressure on to the end," Robinson said. "The second quarter let us down but there was brilliant shooting and good touches in defence. It was a loss but a confidence-booster."
She said Abby Gray, Brooke Fennings and Hannah Stephenson were standouts for Nova.
Elsewhere, BNC Whanau beat Wests No.2 67-36 to rise to 26 points - one point behind Nova. Souths defeated Maryville Tavern 60-39 and Wests No.1 downed Junction Hotel 60-28.
