Sam Mudford scored a crucial double for Wests at Broadmeadow on Sunday as the Rosellas defeated fifth-placed Souths 4-3 and reclaimed outright third on the Hunter Coast Premier Hockey League.

Mudford netted the first and last goals for Wests in a tight round 15 tussle. Souths equalised once in the first half and twice got back within a goal after the break.
The NSW under-21 representative converted from a penalty stroke and penalty corner. Ben Boyle and Jacob Searle also made Wests' list.
Also at Newcastle International Hockey Centre and braces to Rory Walker, Dane Pettit and Shaun Frazer saw second-placed Norths defeat University 6-2.
Elsewhere at Maitland, the Rams slipped to fourth spot after going down 5-3 to competition leaders Gosford despite being in front 2-1 at half-time. Ryan Simpson, Josh Magann and Andrew Lange scored for the hosts.
In the Newcastle district women's premier league on Saturday and Gosford beat Oxfords 2-1, Regals cruised past The Entrance 4-0, Central lost 3-2 to Avoca Beach-Erina while Souths split the points with Tigers after a 1-all draw.
