The pair held one of the 14 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Lotto draw 3963 on July 13, and took home $1.4 million.
Sharing their excitement with a NSW Lotteries official who called to confirm the win, the woman said the pair 'couldn't believe it'.
"We just retired a couple of months ago," the woman told the official.
"It's funny because I wasn't feeling well yesterday so I went down and checked my lottery tickets.
"I scanned my ticket and the girl told me she needed to call the head office.
"I had no idea what was going on. When they said it was division one, I thought they had to be joking.
"I had no idea that in this little bag of mine was a winning ticket of almost $1.5 million. It's amazing!"

The husband and wife said their win couldn't have arrived at a better time in their life.
"This will change our retirement so much," the woman said.
"We're going to help our children and whatever we want, we can get. We're all going on a family holiday to Disneyland, and my husband and I will travel the world.
"It's a big relief."
The happy couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry at Cooranbong Newsagency.
