Put dental fears to sleep

REST EASY: Newcastle Sleep Dental at Charlestown offers an advanced form of dental sedation ideal for people who avoid going to the dentist due to fear.
Dental Health Week runs from August 5-11 with the aim of educating Australians about the importance on maintaining good oral health.
Many people avoid going for dental treatment due to fear. As a result, both their dental health and general health suffers.
Newcastle Sleep Dental at Charlestown is the only purely dedicated Sleep Dental Centre in the Hunter that utilise the skills of a specialist medical anaesthetist for all it sleep dental procedures.
Newcastle Sleep Dental is operated by Dr Rhys Collins, Dr Raj de Silva and Dr Damian Lloyd. All have practised in Newcastle for over 20 years with Raj and Damian attending local high schools.
Over the last 20 years of practice, they have noticed that a large number of patients avoid dental treatment due to fear. Around 10 years ago they offered patients the option of Sleep Dental (IV Sedation) out of their general dental practices located in Wallsend and Charlestown. Due to the high demand for his type of anaesthetic procedure, they have recently built a purpose dedicated premise located in Charlestown that will specialise in providing Sleep Dental for nervous and dentally phobic patients.
Any dental treatment from basic cleaning to complex treatment such as dental implants, wisdom teeth extractions are completed while the patient is profoundly sedated.
The combination of medication used puts patients in a "deep sleep" while the dental treatment is carried out.
This is purely a day stay procedure and the medication usually results in patients not even remembering the entire treatment.
Dr Damian Lloyd is a regular surgeon at Newcastle Sleep Dental. He is a highly experienced dental surgeon and has extracted over 20,000 wisdom teeth. He has placed dental implants for the last 16 years and is also highly experienced in cosmetic dentistry placing countless crowns, bridges and veneers over his career in Newcastle.
Dr Raj de Silva is also available for cosmetic procedures involving dental veneers, crowns and bridges at Newcastle Sleep Dental.
Sleep Dental offers ultimate comfort for patients requesting a complete smile makeover.
Sleep Dental is also ideal for dental extractions prior to dentures. Dentures can be made by your own technician or by Newcastle Sleep Dental's experienced dental technician after a free consultation.
Dentures are usually made before teeth are removed and a new denture placed immediately following extractions. This way you are never without a smile.
Newcastle Sleep Dental provides one location where you can have your dentures made and teeth removed.
Unlike other practices that offer Sleep Dental provided by a dentist who has completed a two-year part-time course in dental sedation, Newcastle Sleep Dental's specialist medical anaesthetist, Dr Stephen McKay, is a fully qualified medical doctor who, after obtaining his medical degree, has spent at least two years working in the hospital system before completing a further five years of training in anaesthesia.
Dr McKay, has worked in the Hunter region since 1985 after he completed his specialist training at St Vincent's Hospital and Westmead Hospital in Sydney.
