The Blues, who are sixth on 29 points - four points outside the top four, have catch-up games against the Roosters then the Jets Youth on Sunday and the results will have a huge bearing on their season, especially with tough matches against Jaffas and Broadmeadow to finish.
Making the task harder is the likely loss of Kane Goodchild, Scott Smith, Rene Ferguson, Zac Lloyd and Adam Hughes to injury and the absence of Jamie Byrnes and Musa Kamara overseas.
Blues coach David Tanchevski said Goodchild (hamstring) could return against the Jets but fellow striker Smith (groin) would likely miss both catch-ups. Ferguson and Hughes picked up knocks in the 2-2 draw with Weston on Sunday and were unlikely to play at Macquarie Field.
The losses, especially in attack, could leave the Blues in a similar position to last year, when they missed the top four by three points.
"It's just the wrong time, and it feels like deja vu," Tanchevski said.
"Last year we had this and lost five on the trot. We've got a little bit more depth this year, which is good, but we'll have a few younger boys in there tomorrow night."
Roosters coach Nick Webb did not expect any changes to his team that beat the Jets Youth 4-3 last Wednesday night. Lakes, who are in a three-way battle to avoid the wooden spoon, back up against Jaffas on Sunday.
