A series of cold fronts are about to cross the state, bringing a significant drop in temperatures for Newcastle and the Hunter.
According to Helen Kirkup, from the Bureau of Meteorology, the mercury is about to drop between five and seven degrees Celsius.
"The biggest feature is the wind that is about to come through," she said.
"We will see west to north-westerly winds that will be both strong and gusty.
"This system should bring a good push of southerly swell."

With the cold weather moving through the state, comes the chance for snow at Barrington Tops.
"On Friday the snow is pushing up to Orange and then the really cold air will reach Barrington overnight on Friday and into Saturday," she said.
"But we will likely only see a dusting of snow."
There is also a chance of showers in the Upper Hunter from Friday through to Sunday, with the possibility of a thunderstorm.
