TALK about a happy hooker. Billy Dunn could not have scripted his 100th first grade game any better if he had written it himself.

Dunn produced a typically gritty effort as the Greens came from 15-7 down to score a try on the bell and beat Lake Macquarie 19-15 at Townson Oval. If the thrilling victory wasn't enough, Dunn was handed the kicking duties for the final conversion. True to form, he slotted the ball straight over the black dot Mick Cronin toe-poke style, before being chaired off the ground.
* Memories came flooding back for a few Hamilton old boys last week after the club received an unexpected piece of history. Before Passmore Oval, Hamilton were based at Shortland, where the Hunter Wetlands Centre is now located.
In 1978 an old blue shed was surrounded by six playing fields. At the time, the main field boasted the tallest goalposts in the Southern Hemisphere. The clubhouse was regarded as the best rock 'n roll venue in Newcastle. But the advent of random breath tests impacted greatly on a venue in the middle of nowhere and in 1982 the doors were closed. Nearly 40 years later, the good people at the Hunter Wetlands Centre discovered a plaque commemorating the opening of the club and returned it to Hamilton. It will now be on display at Passmore Oval.
* Newcastle Griffins will present a $4000 cheque to the "Charlie Run For Kids" charity at Hawkins Oval on on Saturday.
The money was raised at the annual "Stuart Trench Cup" from raffles and the auction of one-off jerseys. Saturday kicks off at 1pm and there will be a jumping castle and face painting for kids.
Griffins old boys will play a game of touch before the main game at 3pm.
