Hunter Valley police are investigation after two people were reportedly assaulted by an unknown man after they returned home to their Aberdare home on Tuesday night.

Police were told a man and woman, aged 27 and 26, had returned to their home on Kearsley Street around 9.35pm Tuesday when they noticed a silver Holden Commodore in the driveway.
An unknown man then left the premises; police have been told he assaulted both the man and the woman before fleeing the scene towards Melbourne Street.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District attended a short time later and established a crime scene.
Police believe more than one person was involved in the incident.
