THE Knights lack speed. It is quite simple: I think our wingers are slow and the Knights need to sign a couple of quick, young wingers who can score long-range tries. We can match the rest of the teams with our forwards, half and fullback but we need fire power out wide.

IT'S very annoying and insulting when people from overseas, who think they're authorities on everything, come here to lecture and berate Australians because we don't all share their extremist views. Nigel Farage has lambasted Malcolm Turnbull for betraying his conservative roots ('Nigel Farage calls Turnbull a 'snake' at conservative talk fest', SMH 11/8). Really! Turnbull is a Liberal. Obviously Farage is ignorant regarding Australian politics. Perhaps he needs to do more research because mixing with just the ultra-right isn't going to inform him of the mainstream of liberal ideology. Perhaps he could consult a dictionary for the meaning of the word. Australia doesn't have a Conservative party. Perhaps he has jet lag.

IN an apparent letter posted by his supporters, George Pell continues to focus on his own "small suffering" (ABC 10/8). He would be well advised to focus more on the not so small suffering that he has either caused or allowed to be inflicted upon others. Then he might be given the purpose and direction that he seeks.
Mark Porter, New Lambton
THERE was a sense of irony in the message contained in Pat Campbell's take on Rafiki disposing of unwanted Ooshies (Opinion, 12/8) and the heading below on Tim Roberts' column ('Fuelling wasteful future is not a plan', Opinion 12/8).

TO Joan Lambert (Letters, 12/8), it's great to hear from someone with a great deal of common-sense. I'm over reading comments from both sides, until I read one from a man that has had a baby.

I'M not trying to wear you down, John Ure (Letters 12/8). I stand by what I said though. You yourself acknowledge the broader question with breaking the seal of Catholic confession other than for the one heinous crime of child sexual abuse. Waleed Aly's theological expertise is irrelevant. He's not making a theological argument, and neither is the royal commission. As for Catholic flexibility, it never applies to what is for Catholics non-negotiable. For the Pope, breaking the confessional seal would betray those priests who have shed blood to keep it intact. It's just not going to happen.

The breakwater at the northern end of Bar Beach is in my opinion no longer a safe place to walk. In my youth, each midwinter at low tide a council truck would appear on the beach for a day or two as the surface of the breakwater was repaired and made safe. For over a year I have been contacting council staff requesting it again be repaired as a safety issue. The final response was "maintenance says no". Why?
