The couple had slipped away from their IT jobs during their lunch break to attend the Music on a plate #2: Vive La France! concert at Christ Church Cathedral.
"It's a nice break from regular work," said Mihaela Tutman.
"When we found about this we said, 'Let's take a longer lunch break'," added Hrvoje Tutman.
The one-hour concert of organ music by three French composers was staged as part of the 2019 Newcastle Music Festival. About 80 people attended the performance by the cathedral's organist, Peter Guy.
The audience was treated to three courses of sublime organ music, including Charles-Marie Widor's Symphony No.5 in F minor, with its "Oh, I know that!" Toccata.
A couple of screens projected Peter Guy's playing, including his feet dancing on the pedals. He was playing in socks, which were decorated with prints of another cuisine - pizza.
Peter Guy was delighted with the interest in the lunchtime concert.
"It's great to see so many people," Mr Guy said.
"We have one of the greatest instruments in Australia, and we've one of the greatest buildings."
Mr Guy, who has played in Notre Dame Cathedral, believed the French theme for the concert resonated with the audience, particularly after the recent fire in the historic Paris landmark.
"It's nice to have that connection," Mr Guy said.
Having had their fill of "awesome" music, Hrvoje Tutman said it was time to return to work: "We have to get back to coding now."
