Emergency services were called to Camfield Drive about 8pm Wednesday and found a man in his 20s trapped inside the wreck of a car.
"The vehicle crashed into a parked truck, a young male was cut from the vehicle," a spokesman for Port Stephens SES said.
"It took about 45 minutes to get him out. We used our heavy rescue, with support from the light rescue vehicle."
Three ambulance crews and a medical team monitored the man's condition until he was freed from the wreck.
He suffered significant head injuries in the crash and had to be intubated at the scene, before he was transported by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
