Le Messurier is a Newcastle legend: he won the 2018 Gardener of the Year crown given by the ABC's Gardening Australia program (and the golden spade that goes with it).
In Saturday's cover story in Weekender magazine inside your Newcastle Herald, senior journalist Scott Bevan gets him to describe his six top Newcastle gardens.
"I don't feel like a celebrity gardener," Le Messurier says. "I just feel I'm someone who has done something that I've loved doing. And I've got a result."
The six gardens include Glenrock Scout Camp, which he nurtured from scratch for 43 years and was the reason he won the ABC crown.
Like so many gardeners hear, he was told, 'You'll never get anything to grow,' at Glenrock. But he did: the camp has 28 gardens.
Weekender also has features on places to enjoy a fireside occasion, the return of Seeker Lover Keeper and a beaut Wickham property.
