Gilbert & Roach Newcastle delivered a cheque for $10,500 to the Hunter Breast Care Foundation on Tuesday, August 13 courtesy of a charity golf day they hosted at East Maitland Golf Club earlier this year.

The Hexham-based truck dealership became involved after one of its long term senior employees unfortunately lost his wife to breast cancer.

"The Hunter Breast Care Foundation (HBCF) provided amazing support on so many levels so we decided we would support the charity by holding an annual charity golf day," Gilbert and Roach Newcastle dealer principle Scott Medhurst said.

"The funds raised go directly to the Hunter Breast Care Foundation and will be used for projects to assist cancer patients and their families."

Around 600 Hunter residents will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

HBCF provides support and practical assistance to those living with breast cancer in the Hunter such as house cleaning, lawn maintenance and free transportation to and from treatment and medical appointment.

"Community fundraisers such as the Gilbert & Roach Charity Golf Day are the life blood of the HBCF," Lisa Bartley, HBCF president, said. "The Foundation aims to build community around the support of those with breast cancer. It is about 'Hunter people helping Hunter people.' Gilbert & Roach Charity Golf Day is a perfect example of this community support."

Business and individuals interested in being involved in next year's Gilbert &Roach Charity Golf Day can email scott.medhurst@gandr.com.au for details.

"We urge businesses and individuals to support the golf day as it is a great cause to support, and because cancer touches so many of us and our families," Mr Medhurst said.

Gilbert and Roach Newcastle is located at 320 Pacific Highway, Hexham and specialises in new and used truck sales, service and parts with particular focus on Kenworth trucks, DAF trucks and Isuzu trucks.
