Adam Lindsey Roy Cobb appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday charged with aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16 and sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 14.
He did not enter any pleas or apply for bail and the matter was adjourned until August 29.
Child Abuse Squad detectives allege Mr Cobb met the girl at a Tamworth park on September 5, 2018, before inviting her to a guest house where the girl was sexually assaulted.
Police say the pair were not known to each other.
Detectives launched an investigation in February this year and Mr Cobb was arrested and charged at Newcastle police station.
As well as the sexual assault offences, Mr Cobb has been charged with a string of property and driving offences, according to court documents.
