Several of the crews were redirected from the bushfires temporarily at one stage to battle a house fire and assist at a motor vehicle accident.

On Sunday, Charlestown firefighters were the first to arrive at a ferocious garage fire at Adamstown Heights. Station officer Grahame Murland reported: "The flames were through the roof. The strong wind blew the flames into an air vent in the house next door, which then ignited." Lambton fire crews had to pull down part of the ceiling to gain access to the blaze in the roof space. Charlestown and Merewether firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the garage fire and two vehicles that were inside it. They also conducted a search of the house to ensure no-one was trapped inside.
On Tuesday, the same crew of firefighters from Charlestown were called to another house fire, this time in Kotara. They arrived to find flames shooting out windows. "We broke the front door down, attacked the fire, and managed to contain it to the lounge room", station officer Murland said. "Once extinguished it became evident the fire had been burning for a fair while before our arrival. There was extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the house."
