Hoolahan will make his competitive debut for the Jets in the FFA Cup round-of-16 showdown with local heavyweights Edgeworth at Jack McLaughlan Oval on Wednesday night.
The 37-year-old, who spent more than a decade at Norwich including four years in the Premier League, will be deployed on the right.
However, he has a licence to drift inside and roam, which opens the corridor for Matt Millar to bomb forward at right back.
Petratos and Hoolahan popped up all over the front third in the 2-0 win over Hamilton Olympic in a friendly last week.
"We have a lot of freedom at the front," Petratos said. "Wes and I can replace each other depending on where we are on the field. We are combining well and have a good understanding of each other.
"Football becomes easy when you have that much experience. I can play off him, he can play off me. I'm really enjoying it."
Petratos and Ronny Vargas played in a similar vein last season. Both played well but they struggled to click together.
"They (defences) started to work us out a little bit last year," Petratos said. "That is the past and we are looking towards the future. Wes and Ronny are different players. They are both quality. Wes has a lot of experinece. He has played so many games in the Premier League and brings something different to the team."
Panamanian striker Abdiel Arroyo has also settled in quickly. He came off the bench and helped turn the game with his pace and power in the come-from-behind 3-2 win in extra-time over Melbourne Victory in the last round of the FFA Cup.
The 25-year-old then opened his account with a predator's goal against Olympic.
"Arroyo doesn't speak much English but he understands football so it works perfect," Petratos said. "We are getting a good understanding with each other. They won't know much about him. He is super fast. You can play the ball a little bit harder and he will still get there. We will try and get him in behind and use him to our advantage."
The Jets, who have never progressed to the quarter-final in the nationwide knockout, had to work overtime to beat Edgeworth 1-0 in their first hit out of the pre-season last month.
"It will be a tough game, a good game," Petratos said. "They have a good squad. We just have to be patient. Teams have played with five at the back against us before. We have been working on how to break it down and get the combinations going."
