SUBURBAN trees have been disappearing from our neighborhood for decades. Every tree that is cut down is another nail in the coffin of humanity. If a tree in your yard is too much work (and I totally understand), and you had it removed, then please join your local Landcare group, and help plant two (or one hundred) to replace it.

I RECENTLY read Deception by David Crowe (SMH, 17/8). It exposes the games that were played behind the scenes and lies that were told by politicians in the manoeuvres against then Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. It's a very interesting read. That evening I watched another episode of the reality TV series Survivor and their catch phrase is Outwit, Outplay, Outlast. The series places a group of strangers together on a remote island and then they have challenges and the losing side must send someone home. It's a game based on deception, lying and cheating just to be the ultimate Survivor. There are rewards along the way much like gaining a ministerial position in government. I couldn't help noticing the similarities in our political system.

THE Australian people have learned that you don't change government by changing governments and if they can't keep the bastards honest then they'll make them.

RICHARD Rule (Short Takes, 19/8), shipping and maritime are but one of many foundations to make Newcastle the most Australian city. There's an easy high turnover/volume quick-getaway for gridlocked Sydney, alone. Missing are swift, frequent intercity rail services right to the coast. Market our stand-out claims of the social, built and natural. A lot meant community sheer guts, blood and sweat. Bury it instead.

KEOLIS is certainly a downer.

I AGREE Alan Jones should have put a sock in it with his terminology when criticising Jacinda Ardern. However, I fully agree with Jones re: Ardern, who inherited a wonderful economy from the immediately previous conservative NZ government, because Ardern will do a female version of a destructive Whitlam-like government.

SO good to see Cameron Smith plastered all over the papers with yet another grub act. A leopard never changes its spots. The sooner he is out of the game the better off we will all be, he is a disgrace.

I KNOW nothing but my prediction is Nathan Brown will replace Paul McGregor as coach of the St George Dragons in 2020.

A SAD goodbye to Browny. You started off with a mixed bunch, you pruned them every year and we have now a group of young men who we enjoy watching. Thanks Nathan.
