Sports clubs who use fields adjacent to Belmont Sporties could be forced to park in surrounding streets if a plan goes ahead to shut off the defunct club's car park.

The owner of the former club site has signalled their intent to erect fencing around the property.
They recently approached Lake Macquarie City Council about leasing the car park, which is highly used when cricket and baseball matches are played on the adjoining fields.
But the council has baulked at the lease price, believed to be tens of thousands of dollars annually.
Belmont Baseball Club president Stephen Pack said the loss of more than 70 parking spaces would be a major "inconvenience to all sporting clubs that utilise Miller [Park] and Barton Oval".
"The owner has indicated that he's going to fence the whole property off," he said.

"The council has rejected that [approach]. There was a ceasefire, and he agreed to hold off putting the fence up, but it looks like he is going to go ahead and do it now."
Mr Pack said while the local baseball season was coming to an end, the club was hosting grand finals in mid-September - an event for which he would "anticipate the car park to be full".
"We'll have to look at dispersing the cars around the neighourhood, which impacts everyone else in that vicinity," he said.
"It's the only car park, really. It's a huge impact on baseball and cricket."
Mr Pack said the club had been informed of the situation through a third-party and had not dealt directly with the site owner.
The Newcastle Herald was not able to make contact with owner, but reported last month the club building had been split up into several tenancies which were available for lease.
Belmont Sporties went into administration in 2018. The now privately owned site includes 78 line-marked spaces and 28 informal spaces, according to Lake Macquarie City Council.
A council spokesperson confirmed there had been an approach for council to lease the car park on the eastern edge of the club building.
"Council staff declined the offer," the spokesperson said.
"There is alternate parking in the vicinity of the sports field and the cost of the lease does not provide a long-term improvement to the sports complex.
"Leasing the car park does not reflect council's priorities for this site."
The spokesperson said council was working to improve access between the club and Cahill Oval to allow easier access to the fields.
"The adopted Belmont Sports Fields Masterplan considered and planned for the loss of the Belmont Sporties Club car park," the spokesperson said.
"When the masterplan is implemented, it will provide new parking areas, and help attract and facilitate large-scale events at the facility."
East ward councillor Adam Shultz has called a site inspection for all parties to discuss the issue. The meeting was expected to be held on Thursday afternoon.
"I requested the site inspection so the community understood what was being proposed and they could have their say," Cr Shultz said.
"This ... will try and mediate some middle ground, or at the very least, outline what's going to happen in the future."
