Competing in the under-12 boys division, the Novocastrian duo put in commanding performances at North Cronulla beach to post heat scores in the 11 and ten-point range.
It was Fellix Byrnes who finished on top at the end of the event but the Merewether boys' performances could barley be separated.
Newcastle's Jett Degan finished fourth in the under-10 boys. Hughie Vaughan of Bateau Bay claimed top spot in the under-14 boys.
The Surfer Groms Comps Series is considered one of the major stepping stones in the development of young surfers.
The 10-event series caters for surfers in the under-eight to under-14 age groups.
More than 700 children are expected to take part in the 2019/20 series, which visits NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia.
The next event will be held on Sydney's northern beaches this weekend before the final NSW events in Kiama later this month and Coffs Harbour in early October.
