I AM ME has been filming across various Hunter locations for the past month, including Blackbutt Nature Reserve, Newcastle Museum, and the Hunter Wetlands Centre at Shortland.
The show is the first major production to film in Newcastle with the aim of using as many local cast and crew as possible.
The cast is made up entirely of Hunter Region children, who explore the world around them while being guided by the show's host, a puppet named Dash the Dragon.
The focus of the show will be children having fun, sharing their ideas, and using their imagination.
Over the course of filming, the children participated in various activities such as arts and craft, imaginative play, and interactions with local birds and animals.
Producer Kylie Mascord said the exciting young cast, the local crew and the various locations on offer were the major factors which made Newcastle such a desirable filming location.
"In Newcastle, the kids don't have much access to being on stuff like this ... so they're all a lot more fresh and enthusiastic," she said.
"The fact we could get a crew here rather than having to bring one from Sydney was also really good.
"If we were in Sydney and we wanted to do this many types of locations, our travel would have been so much further for our crew, we'd have been travelling an hour to get to a wildlife park.
"Newcastle offered everything we wanted in a nice little package."
Executive officer at Regional Development Australia Hunter Trevor John said I AM ME would help attract attention to the region and build up the film and television industry, improving the local economy.
According to production co-ordinator Olivia Olley, the show also provided a vital opportunity for hands-on experience for Newcastle students looking to break into the industry.
Two members of the show's crew are students at University of Newcastle, while another is a student at Hunter TAFE.
"This is a really amazing training ground for them," Ms Olley said.
"It's very rare to get a TV credit on your CV without going to Sydney."
The show is being produced by Ambience Entertainment and facilitated by local production company Good Eye Deer.
Ms Olley, who is a producer at Good Eye Deer, said she was proud to showcase the talent available in Newcastle.
"We're quite proud to have demonstrated the capacity of the skills in Newcastle."
I AM ME will air on the Nine Network's 9GO! channel next year.
