The five-year-old gelding sprinted to a 1.4 metre win in a career-best 1:51:0 mile after Ison found a sit three back in the running line.
It was Ison's first group race success and just his second city winner after piloting Pitch Perfect to victory for Roots jnr earlier on the night.
Roots jnr had a winning double also at Newcastle on Friday night with Amightyfinehorse and The Big Dig.
Chris Geary drove both winners as Roots jnr started his Newcastle premiership defence in style. He claimed his first trainers' premiership when finishing equal with KerryAnn Morris on 32 winners for 2018-19 at the track last week.
