Police are searching for a man after a woman was threatened with a knife during a late night hold-up at Port Stephens.

The alleged bandit entered the service station on Nelson Bay Road at Anna Bay about 11.15pm on Monday and threatened a 59-year-old employee.
Police said the man grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before he fled the scene.

Port Stephens-Hunter police established a crime scene and are searching for the man.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 25 and 30 and about 180cm tall with a thin build.
He was last seen wearing a tan hooded jacket, dark pants, work boots and a dark and light coloured beanie.
