Gaining the Dave Williams Medal as man of the match was a bonus.

Evans was superb at the back for Edgeworth in just his second NNSW NPL game since June 30, after spending two months with the RAAF in the US.

Initially, the stint was scheduled for three months, which would have ruled the centre-back out for the rest of the season.

Luckily for the Eagles, Evans returned for the second-leg semi-final win over Lambton Jaffas and stood tall again in the decider.

Edgeworth coach Damian Zane believed two-goal hero Daniel Fabrizio was his team's best on the day but said Evans deserved an individual award.

He and Pat Wheeler have been the only Eagles to feature in all of their five consecutive grand finals under Zane. Wheeler was also superb on Sunday.

"He deserves one," Zane said of Evans. "He's the most dominant player the five years I've been in charge."

Evans was just glad to get the win after losses to Jaffas and Broadmeadow in the past two grand finals.

"It's just relief more than anything," Evans said.

"Coming back, I've been doing some training overseas and I knew I had to stay fit. I didn't want to lose a third grand final, and we didn't win the premiership this year, so it was mainly just relief to be honest."
