Newcastle was expecting a maximum of 30 degrees and a mostly sunny day on Monday, before a cooler change on Tuesday and a chance of rain. NSW Rural Fire Service has issued a very high fire danger warning in the Hunter on Monday.

Strong winds are likely to give way to rough surf conditions in the Hunter on Tuesday. NSW Police Marine Area Command have advised swimmers should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
