Dalton Partners' Andrew McGavin and Scott Purnell are marketing the three-bedroom brick and sandstone residence, which is built on two titles of land comprising 1360 square metres at 4 Hurn Street, with a guide of $995,000.
Members of the Stronach family lived at the property until it was bought by the late Dr Tony Bookallil and his wife Gabrielle in 1976. Ms Bookallil told Domain it has been a lovely place to raise a family and to entertain.
Dr Bookallil came to Newcastle in 1975 as the region's first neurosurgeon and was the sole brain and spine specialist between the Hawkesbury River and Queensland border until 1988.
It has formal dining and lounge rooms as well as informal living, a billiards or rumpus room, a covered alfresco area plus a wine cellar and downstairs bar.
"It is a grand home," Mr McGavin said. "It is really something special when you walk in there. Everything is extraordinarily well built and big proportions. It is just a classic house from that era."
Inspections are by appointment only.
