Knights CEO Phil Gardner labelled the two-time Danny Buderus Medalist a "potential future captain" after he scooped the major gong at Wednesday night's Newcastle Knights awards presentation.
After a disappointing final two months of the season, the finalists for medal honours are skipper Mitchell Pearce, frontrower David Klemmer, past winner Barnett and utility star Connor Watson.
Along with the major award, there will also be awards for NRL players' player, rookie of the year, community player of the year, clubman of the year and nib inspiring moment of the year while the leading players in the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides will also be recognised.
It all kicks off at 6 pm with the players and their partners on the red carpet.
