Firefighters rushed to scene after emergency calls were received a few minutes after 1pm.
"Crews could see a large plume of smoke on route," a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said.
"They found the bus well alight, all passengers had evacuated."
It is not yet known where the bus was travelling, or how many people were on board.
Two FRNSW crews were called from Tarro and Raymond Terrarce, along with a Rural Fire Service crew from Raymond Terrace as well.
The fire took about an hour to extinguish, but Masonite Road remains closed in an easterly direction.
