It's certainly been a big year for Rhys and Sophie Smith, the owners of Sanbah Surf. The end of 2018 saw them open two new stores, Rip Curl Newcastle at The Junction and Sanbah Grindhouse at Marketown. These stores, along with their share in Drift Bikes at Kotara, all have the common theme of encouraging people to get out and be active.

This commitment has seen the introduction of a wide range of active programs at Grindhouse. Options range from toddler programs (Littlies Skate & Scoot Playtime) to school sport, after school and vacation programs. Grindhouse also offers active programs that are not skate based and includes their Yoga In The Park and Pilates In The Park sessions.

Now at the end of term 3, some kids have been in the after-school program for three terms and gaining in skills and confidence. With an after school pick-up service, the program also allows parents to stay at work while their kids are in the program.

Leading into the school holidays, Sanbah Grindhouse is set to be busy providing the kids of Newcastle with holiday activities (and maybe a little break for the parents). With skateboarding being introduced as an Olympic sport at Tokyo 2020, there is a growing interest in the sport and this has been felt by the increased participation levels in the skate programs at Grindhouse.

The Vacation Skate Program at Grindhouse offers kids the opportunity to progress in skating, gain confidence and meet other kids. There are also other holiday activities for all ages, including, open sessions (skate, scoot, roller skate or rollerblade), private and group skate lessons.

Due to popular demand, Grindhouse have added Scooters and Roller Skates to their retail offering so there is something in there for everyone wanting to use the park.

One of the best things for those bringing kids to Grindhouse's indoor skatepark, is that there are plenty of things for them to look at while their kids enjoy the park. Sanbah Grindhouse offers a clothing and skate store along with a café, so customers can have a shop, grab a coffee or a bite to eat and relax in the café area or the viewing deck which overlooks the skate park.
